Sunday Brunch Fashion Series 3: Pila Studio
Fashion designer Nipon Pila of Pila Studio shows off his loose silhouettes and bold colours at an exclusive showing at the Bangkok Trading Post’s Sunday Brunch Fashion Series 3 of his first collection for women.
Since he burst on the scene with his brightly coloured vintage-inspired collections, Nipon has dressed pop stars Jetset’er and Season Five among other local musicians and entertainment celebrities. Not bad for someone who began his career as a publicist for a bank and studied fashion design part time.
Nipon who believes “suits are classics” and “power pieces that transform a man into a gentleman” says his brush with the world of fine tailoring growing up made him passionate about it. Now using intriguing fabrics, bold colours, loose silhouettes, and interesting detailing, he borrows elements from the past to create styles that are focused on each individual’s characteristics. “My inspiration is from the vintage styles of the past,” he says. “I borrow some of the elements and silhouettes and blend them with today’s modern styles.”
Nipon says his clothes are for working men or men who have to attend social gatherings and recently added more fun into the styles such as broader shoulders high-waisted trousers and wider cuts for those men interested in vintage styles for their daily looks.
His collection earlier this year titled, “The Sapeurs” drew inspiration from a band of dandies from Brazzaville, Congo who go by the name of Societe Des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Elegantes (The Society of Tastemakers and Elegant People). This group has turned the art of dressing into a cultural statement, abiding by a code befitting of the gentlemanly clothes they put on each morning.
His newest collection aimed at women are suits that are inspired by the Bauhaus modernist art school, whose founder’s vision was bridging the gap between art and industry by combining crafts and fine arts.
